Presenting Ability

An Educational Philosophy

I BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE HAS ABILITIES.

The way we classify “people with disabilities” is very demeaning and unfair. Although its an easy way to catalogue and categorize people, it speaks to an inability to uncover the true nature, and ultimately “ability”, in anyone. Plus no two “people with disabilities” are alike. Didn’t we get over generalizing yet? And don’t we all value diversity? Ask someone with a disability when they’ve had to “think outside the box” and they will give you a myriad of examples – its how they live.

I present and educate with this principle in mind. Whether facilitating Continuing Education classes in university classrooms, or presenting Disability Awareness Training to corporate clients, the underlying message is the same. And please don’t be afraid – my presentation methods are very interactive, inclusive and respectful of differing opinions. I believe the value is in the discussion and I promise I won’t point a finger at anyone. My vision is simple – to eliminate the stigma attached to disability.
